Bashkirov Dimitri

Dmitri Bashkirov (born November 1, 1931, Tblisi, Georgia, is a Russian pianist and educator. Bashkirov studied piano in Tbilisi with Anastasia Virsaladze, and at the Moscow Conservatoire with Alexander Goldenweiser. He took 2nd prize in the Marguerite Lomg-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris in 1955, and received the Robert Schumann Prize in Zwickau in 1970. Studio and 'live' recordings by Bashkirov have been released on the Melodiya, Harmonia Mundi, and Jacques Samuel labels. The discontinued Russian Piano School edition included concertos by Bach, Mozart and Ravel (Left Hand) recorded in concert in 1965-76 Bashkirov joined the faculty of the Moscow Conservatory in 1957, as an assistant to Goldenweiser. He currently teaches at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid (Spain) and he makes regular concert appearances and frequently acts as an adjudicator in piano competitions. His first pupil was Nelly Akopian-Tamarina, who won the Schumann International Competition in 1963. Distinguished students since have included Dimitri Alexeev, Nikolai Demidenko, Arcadi Volodos, and Claire-Marie Le Guay.
