Cornelia Wulkopf (Contralto)

Born: 1952 - Braunschweig. Germany

The German contralto, Cornelia Wulkopf, studied at der Nordwestdeutschen Musikakademie in Detmold. In 1976 she won first prize in the competitions of the National Colleges of Music and the Federal Competition of the VDMK in Berlin.

Cornelia Wulkopf made her debut in 1977 at the Bayreuth Festival in Patrice Chéraus new production Ring of the Nibelungen. In the same year she was engaged by the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, to whose ensemble she belonged until 1990. Since her debut as Erda in Rhinegold she has sung numerous roles in Munich, among them: Waltraute, Brangäne, Magdalena, Orpheus, Ulrica, Azucena, Frau Reich, Bostana (Barbier von Bagdad) und Hexe (Hänsel und Gretel). Guest engagements led the singer the other opera houses, such as Hamburgische Staatsoper, Komische Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Wiener Staatsoper, Opernhaus Zürich, Milan’s La Scala and the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona. She sang in Tristan und Isolde in Tokyo, in Hamburg’s Ring production in 1992-1993, in Julius Caesar and Hoffmans Erzählungen in Berlin, in 1995 in Rhinegold at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, in 1997 and 1998 in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung at Milan’s La Scala as well as in 1997 in Frau ohne Schatten at Dresdner Semperoper.

Cornelia Wulkopf's expanded concert activity under renowned conductors led her among other things to Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, Zürich, Geneva, Lausanne, Budapest, St. Petersburg, Riga, Bordeaux, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome and Santiago de Chile.
